Dr. Agarwal's OPD in Dimapur
Dr. Mayank Agarwal sees patients in Dimapur once a month, so that people from Nagaland and the neighbouring hills do not have to make the long journey to Guwahati just for a first consultation. If a procedure turns out to be necessary, it is planned for you in Guwahati — with the dates, tests and stay arranged before you leave Dimapur.

Finding the clinic
- By train: Dimapur railway station is the main entry point to Nagaland. Eden Medical Centre is in the Sub-Jail / Ao Kashiram area of the town; autos and taxis from the station will take you there. Use the map link above and give the driver the landmark "Sub-Jail".
- From Kohima and the hill districts: buses and shared cabs end at Dimapur's main stands. Leave early — hill roads are slow in the monsoon and landslides can delay a morning start.
- From Karbi Anglong and Manipur: if the road journey is long, consider reaching Dimapur the day before rather than the same morning.
- What to carry: every previous report (endoscopy, scans, blood tests), discharge summaries, and the strips or photographs of all the medicines you take.
Why Nagaland patients often need a gastroenterologist earlier
Figures from Nagaland cancer registry and risk-factor surveys, reported in 2022, show that stomach and oesophageal cancer are two of the three most common cancers in men in the state, and stomach cancer is also among the top three in women. The same report found that around 4 in 10 adults use tobacco (mostly smokeless), about 3 in 10 use betel or areca products, and roughly 4 in 10 have central (belly) obesity. These are exactly the habits and risk factors that make upper-gut symptoms worth investigating rather than treating with antacids for months.
The rule we use for Dimapur patients: acidity or indigestion that keeps returning for more than a few weeks, and is combined with weight loss, difficulty swallowing, vomiting, anaemia or black stools, needs an endoscopy — not another course of tablets.
| Problem you may have in Dimapur | What we usually check | Where it is done |
|---|---|---|
| Burning, upper-belly pain, early fullness lasting weeks | H. pylori test (stool antigen or breath test); endoscopy if there are alarm symptoms or symptoms persist despite treatment | Test arranged at Dimapur; endoscopy at Apollo Clinic, Ulubari or Hayat |
| Food sticking, difficulty swallowing, weight loss | Early endoscopy; biopsy if any abnormal area | Guwahati — do not delay for the next OPD date |
| Fatty liver on ultrasound with a big waistline or sugar | FIB-4 score from your blood tests, then FibroScan if needed | FibroScan at Hayat or Apollo Ulubari |
| Jaundice, pale stools, itching | Ultrasound, liver tests, MRCP; ERCP if the bile duct is blocked | Hayat Hospital — read about jaundice |
| Known hepatitis B, or family member with it | Viral load, liver scan, vaccination of contacts | Review at the Dimapur OPD |
How a procedure is planned from Dimapur
Guwahati is a long journey from Dimapur — most of a day by road — so the plan is built to need as few trips as possible.
- Before the OPD: photograph your reports and send them on WhatsApp. If the pictures show a blocked bile duct, bleeding or a suspicious area, we can advise on urgency before the second Friday arrives.
- At the OPD: the procedure and its dates are decided, and you are told which blood tests to do in Dimapur so that results are ready on arrival.
- Travel: plan to reach Guwahati the day before. Hayat Hospital is in Kahilipara; Apollo Clinic is in Ulubari, in the city centre. A booked room near the hospital saves a stressful early morning.
- Diagnostic endoscopy or colonoscopy: done without sedation in most patients (sedation is available on request at Hayat), so you walk out and can travel back the same day or next morning. Read the preparation guide.
- ERCP or EUS: day-care or one-night admission at Hayat. Bring an attendant. About ERCP · About EUS.
- Afterwards: reports, biopsy results and follow-up advice are sent on WhatsApp; the next review can be at the next Dimapur OPD.
If a procedure is needed urgently
Black stools, vomiting blood, or jaundice with fever mean going to the nearest emergency department in Dimapur or Kohima first — do not wait for the OPD or begin a long road journey while unstable. Once you are stable, we can plan transfer or follow-up.
Coming to the Dimapur OPD?
Send your reports on WhatsApp with your name, age and place of residence. We confirm the date and the hour before you travel.
Do not wait for the outreach date if you have:
- Vomiting blood, or black, tarry stools — read what to do
- Yellow eyes with fever, shivering or tummy pain — what it means
- Severe or worsening abdominal pain, a rigid tummy, or repeated vomiting
- Confusion or unusual sleepiness in someone with liver disease
Go straight to the nearest emergency department in Dimapur. Dimapur has government and private hospitals with emergency services; Kohima is the alternative for those coming from the hills.
